Enhancing postharvest quality of fresh-cut plums with chitosan-grape seed oil edible coatings

چکیده
Edible coatings are traditionally used to improve food appearance and conservation due their environmentally friendly nature. In this study fresh cut (halved pitted) plum (var. Stanley) fruits were coated by chitosan grape-seed-oil (GsO) nanoemulsion. Physical, physico-chemical, microbiological sensorial properties examined 3 times during 9 d refrigeration storage. The control probes wasted safety quality after the 4 th d. preserved end of storage period. with coating showed smaller contamination but GsO higher values in parameters. samples parameters up 80% on

Edible coatings for fresh-cut fruits.
The production of fresh-cut fruits is increasingly becoming an important task as consumers are more aware of the importance of healthy eating habits, and have less time for food preparation. A fresh-cut fruit is a fruit that has been physically altered from its original state (trimmed, peeled, washed and/or cut), but remains in a fresh state. Unfortunately since fruits have living tissue, they ...
متن کاملEnhancing safety and shelf life of fresh-cut mango by application of edible coatings and microencapsulation technique
Mango pulp is very perishable and so has a short shelf life, which both marketers and consumers would like to be longer. Manually sliced mango was treated by coating opuntia mucilage-rosemary oil (Mu + RO), 2 g rosemary oil microencapsul (ROM), and 2 g (ROM) plus (Mu + RO); the treated mango pieces were placed in plastic trays, and overwrapped with PVDC film and then stored at 6°C. Changes in t...
متن کاملMaintaining Quality Properties of Grape CV. ‘Bidaneh Ghermez’ by Chitosan Edible Coating, Thymus Essential Oil and their Concomitant Application
The application of edible coatings is one of the most innovative methods to extend the commercial shelf-life of fruits and vegetables by acting as a gas barrier. In this study, the effects of chitosan, thymus essential oil and their combination in extending shelf life of grape (‘Bidaneh Ghermez’) and quality properties were investigated. Grapes were harvested when were fully ripened and their t...

The potential benefits of edible films or coatings are to stabilize the product and thereby extend it shelf life. Edible films can delay ripening of climacteric fruit, delay colour changes in non-climacteric fruit, reduce water loss, reduce decay, and improve appearance. The aim of this work was to evaluate the use of edible coatings to preserve the quality of fresh cut mango fruits storage und...
